The colour is cloudy rather than flat: darker in patches and warmer where the pile catches the light, so it looks more like well worn leather than new velvet. The black and white striped braid round the edge is quite graphic against it and stops it looking too traditional.
This is a grounding cushion. On a cream or stone sofa it gives the arrangement some weight, and it's good with navy, olive and natural linen. If you want the braid to show, keep the cushions either side of it plain.
