Baya is taken from a scrap of Japanese block printed fabric, a wave or hoop design that has turned up in one form or another across centuries of pattern making. Rapture and Wright print it in England, and their version keeps a delicate line and a gentle variation of tone across the fabric that a flat machine print would lose. This is the palm colourway.
Backed and piped in Linara green by Romo. 28 x 48cm, handmade in my Devon workroom with tapered corners, overlocked edges and an invisible zip along the bottom edge.
Cut from a limited length of fabric, so very few are made.
There is a pleasing symmetry in this one. A design rescued from a scrap, made up here from a short length. It suits a chair rather than a sofa, and it is happiest against plain green or a natural linen.
