Birdtree by Neisha Crosland, embroidered onto a dusty rose silk taffeta. Stylised flower heads in cream, pink, magenta and olive sit along dark chocolate branches that travel the length of the cushion, each flower built up in satin stitch so it stands well clear of the silk.
At 40 x 95cm this is a long cushion, closer to a bolster, and the design was chosen for the shape: the branches run the whole length rather than repeating themselves in a small square.
Piped and backed in a chocolate brown silk, which picks up the branches and stops the rose from turning sweet.
Corners are tapered, fabric edges are overlocked and there is an invisible zip along the bottom edge. Handmade in my Devon workroom, available with or without a bespoke feather pad.
There is one cover only, so once it has gone it will not be repeated.
A cushion this long belongs across the back of a deep sofa or at the head of a bed, where it does the work of two. Keep everything around it plain and let it be the only decorated thing in view.
