Circles and Squares by Florence Broadhurst, hand printed by Signature Prints from the original screens. A repeating grid of squares inside squares with a circle at the centre of each, printed in a strong blue on a biscuit hopsack, front and back.
Broadhurst drew it with the confidence of her era: geometric, symmetrical and completely unapologetic. Because every length is still hand printed, the blue has the slight unevenness of a pulled screen rather than the flatness of a digital print, and the hopsack ground shows through it.
Piped in a neutral, which takes the hard edge off a strong geometric.
45 x 45cm square, handmade in my Devon workroom with tapered corners, overlocked edges and an invisible zip along the bottom edge.
This one has sold. It was cut from a short length of fabric and I cannot make another, but there is more in the CB Collection.
Blue and cream geometrics are a good foil for a floral, and on a plain linen sofa this one will take a navy, a mustard or a soft green alongside it.
