District Tawny is Kelly Wearstler's hand painted geometric print, a cubist arrangement of soft blocks in aqua, buttermilk, chalk and warm apricot, held together by a pale graphic outline. It is gentler than most statement prints. The colour is all there, but it stays light.
I have made these as rectangles, backed in Wearstler's black and ivory wobbly stripe so the cushion reads quite differently depending on which way it falls, and piped in buttermilk canvas to settle the two prints against each other.
40 x 60cm, handmade in my Devon workroom with tapered corners, overlocked edges and an invisible zip along the bottom edge.
This one belongs on a pale sofa rather than a dark one, where the aqua has something to do. Keep whatever sits beside it plain, and take that plain colour out of the cushion rather than setting something against it.
Cushion pad: 100% duck feather.
