Kabuki, and its smaller sister Ikeda, come from Broadhurst's early years in Asia. The design takes its name and its shape from Japanese theatre, and there is something of the showgirl about it, which is exactly where she had come from in the 1920s.
This is a big, confident print and it needs the space. At 65 x 65cm you get whole fans rather than fragments of them, which is the only way the design makes sense.
65 x 65cm square, handmade in my Devon workroom with tapered corners, overlocked edges and an invisible zip along the bottom edge.
This one has sold. It was cut from a short length of fabric and I cannot make another, but there is more in the CB Collection.
A print this strong works best on its own, on a large plain sofa, with nothing patterned near it.
