Woven Stripe in fennel by Mark Alexander. The stripe is woven rather than printed, so the colour runs right through the fabric and the edge of each band is soft rather than drawn. Backed in a thick white canvas, heavier than the front, which gives the cushion some backbone.

Available as a 45 × 45 cm square or a 30 × 40 cm rectangle, handmade in my Devon workroom with tapered corners, overlocked edges and an invisible zip along the bottom edge.

Cut from a limited length of fabric, so very few are made.

A woven stripe is the easiest pattern to live with because it has direction but no motif. Run horizontally against a plain sofa it makes the seat look wider, which is useful in a small room.

Care: dry clean recommended. Due to the handcrafted nature of the fabric, slight irregularities and shade variations are characteristic and not considered faults. Exact colour matching to previous orders cannot be guaranteed.
