Park Life by Sanderson, from their vintage 1950s collection. An embroidered linen covered in sketched figures walking across an off white ground, drawn in fine black outline with blocks of red, orange, mustard and lime stitched in. Look closely and there is a dog, an umbrella, a couple standing together. It has the loose observational quality of a drawing done from a bench.
Because it is embroidered rather than printed, the figures stand slightly proud of the ground and catch the light, which is what gives the fabric its life.
Backed and piped in a bright yellow velvet. A bold choice for the reverse, and it makes the cushion worth turning round.
Available as a 45 x 45cm square and a 35 x 65cm rectangle. This listing is for one cover, so please choose the size you would like. Corners are tapered, fabric edges are overlocked and there is an invisible zip along the bottom edge. Handmade in my Devon workroom, available with or without a feather pad.
Only a small number of covers were cut from this length of fabric, so once they have gone they will not be repeated.
This is a conversation piece rather than a quiet one. On a plain sofa, in linen or a deep solid colour, it does all the work on its own.
