Quintero in sorbet by Romo. A cut velvet where short vertical strokes of caramel, tan, blush and charcoal are laid over a cream ground, each one fading out as it meets the next, so the pattern reads as a soft chevron rather than a hard zigzag.
The pile is what makes it. The colour shifts as the light moves across the cushion, warm and golden from one side, greyer and cooler from the other.
Backed in a plain neutral velvet by Pedroso & Osorio, so it feels the same in the hand whichever way it is turned.
30 x 40cm rectangle. Corners are tapered, fabric edges are overlocked and there is an invisible zip along the bottom edge. Handmade in my Devon workroom, available with or without a duck feather pad.
Only a small number of covers were cut from this length of fabric, so once they have gone they will not be repeated.
A cushion this size earns its place in an armchair rather than getting lost on a large sofa. The palette is quiet enough for cream, oatmeal and pale oak, and the charcoal strokes are what stop it feeling bland.
