Slate is a dark charcoal grey with a fine woven texture: tiny crossing threads give it a slightly checked, linen-like look up close. From a distance it reads as a soft, matt charcoal. The fringe mixes grey and taupe threads, which softens the edge and stops the cushion looking too hard.
It's a good dark plain for a textured scheme, a little more relaxed than velvet. In the photographs it's with Swing in Tobacco and Ritz in Fog, and that mix of charcoal, brown and pale grey works well on a stone or oatmeal sofa. It would also suit a grey bedroom with white linen.
